HOW TO COMPETE

Competition focuses the mind by setting specific time framed goals which will aid in focusing you training, adding motivation and providing reference points to monitor progress.
Whilst winning a show is nice it doesn’t define a winner. A true winner is someone who can set goals and stick to a plan to the end, reaching ever greater physical heights for themselves.
We at Monstermuscle highly recommend competing in a natural physique contest. We are active supporters of the BNBF as their professionally run, well coordinated and friendly  shows make the experience of competing enjoyable and their dedication to drug testing and polygraph the competitors ensures the playing field is as level as possible.

There are a few considerations when competing and we aim to give you an overall reference to aid you in your competitive endeavors.

Find a show
This is easy by just looking at the websites of differing federations like the BNBF for their upcoming shows, once you have a range of show dates you can select one which gives you enough time to get ready.

Give yourself enough time to diet.
Typically to avoid losing muscle size and fullness its advised to lose around one to two pounds a week so you will need to work out how much fat you have to lose and give yourself enough weeks running up to your show – for example if you need to lose ten pounds then you need a minimum of ten weeks.

Learn how to pose

Often in a competitive show a physique can look less impressive than it actually is because its not shown well – the judges can only score on what they see and if you don’t show them they can not award you for it. Find an experienced competitor or use a good reference (Monster Muscle How to Pose Video) to learn how to pose correctly and to suite your physique.

Shave, tan and prep correctly
Just like posing your skin colour on stage, the skins condition and the trunks or attire you wear can alter the visual image you present to the judges. As such it’s vital to tan and prep correctly.

Ensure you peak correctly
There are a myriad of techniques and superstitious rituals surrounding competing. Whilst some of these are questionable, some techniques can aid you in fine tuning a physique.
